Remodeling My Closet: A Glimpse into Our Home Renovation

In the midst of our home renovation project in 2023, the overhaul of my master bathroom provided the perfect opportunity to tackle the neglected space that was my closet. I finally had the opportunity to detail design a functional and aesthetically pleasing space for my clothes and accessories.

My closet before the renovation. One wire shelf and a wobbly shoe rack. A few fabric bins left over from the kids’ playroom years ago.

For seven long years, my closet has consisted of a solitary wire rack shelf and a perpetually wobbly shoe rack. The time had finally come to say goodbye to the chaos and embrace a new era of orderliness. With the space gutted out and the carpet ripped up, I began a mission to design shelves that would not only fit my needs but also bring a sense of harmony to the chaos.

The vision was clear: one hanging bar for clothing, shelves meticulously arranged to accommodate daily essentials, seasonal items, purses, and a dedicated shoe storage solution. Our builder was amazing to work with and he listened to every detail I had in mind. Shelves were installed to create designated spaces for each category of belongings. Below the hanging bar, clear plastic drawers became the new homes for work tees, hats, and belts, ensuring easy access and streamlined mornings. Meanwhile, the top shelves proudly displayed fabric totes filled with seasonal clothing and a few keepsakes.

Perhaps the showpiece of this closet transformation was the shoe shelves. Equipped with space-saving shoe slot organizers, my collection of footwear found a new lease on life, neatly stacked and ready for any occasion. The decision to swap bulky plastic hangers for sleek non-slip alternatives was a game-changer, maximizing space and minimizing clutter. No more items of clothing falling off the hangers onto the floor!

As the shelves received their final coat of paint and hardwood floors were laid with care, the excitement of the impending organization reached its peak. Next came the joyous task of arranging each item in its designated place.

The day construction was finished!

The result? A closet that not only meets but exceeds expectations! Each visit is a reminder of the peace-giving power of a well-organized space, where every item has its place and finding what you need is a breeze.

The finished product! My dream closet! The top bins hold purses, seasonal clothing, and a few keepsakes. The clear drawers below the hanging clothes hold work tee shirts, hats, and belts. The bottom row of fabric totes store hoodies and bulky sweatshirts.

Our home renovation journey concluded in August of 2023. I plan to share more of the transformation in our home. Stay tuned for future posts detailing the rest of our remodel, where each room holds the promise of newfound beauty and functionality. Until then, here's to the joy of a well-organized closet and the endless possibilities it brings.

The top shelf holds my professionally stored wedding dress. The shoes are organized with shoe slotz space-saving units. The black cast iron hooks on the wall are used for pajamas and clothes that I will wear again.
